This editorial from Marie-Claire (british?) back in fall pretty much sums up my fall (and winter) wardrobe. I lived in car coats, cropped trousers and ballet flats. As you can guess, it doesn't get to cold in Austin so that gives you a lot of breathing room to pass on wearing parkas and snow boots 24/7.
